The Eeyou Istchee Sports and Recreation Association congratulates Mark Tomatuk from Eastmain on being awarded an Aléo Foundation Scholarship!
This scholarship follows an incredible year of athletic achievements for Mark Tomatuk. In August 2024, the Wabannutao Eeyou School student helped lead the U17 Quebec Men's Fastpitch Team to a national title, winning tournament MVP and Player of the Game in the Finals for this stunning performance. At the plate, he batted .609 in 30 appearances, hit 4 home runs and drove in 15 runs! As a pitcher, he pitched 24 innings and struck out 49 batters, finishing with a 1.42 ERA.
When asked by the Cree Nation Government if he had any advice for youth who want to play competitive softball, he emphasized the importance of practicing and training twice a day:
“Practice hard, improve and try to learn from your mistakes, but most of all have fun.”
Congratulations on your scholarship win, Mark! We look forward to continuing to cheer you on, both on and off the ballfield!
